Upper Township paramedics and Seaville firefighters were called to the northbound side of the parkway at around 9:03 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, Seaville Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post. A mother in labor had pulled over near milepost 21, unable to reach the hospital in time.

Seaville fire Deputy Chief Brian Allegretto, a medical intensive care unit paramedic, arrived first at 9:09 p.m. alongside state troopers. An ambulance with two EMTs and a firetruck soon joined the scene.

It quickly became clear there was no time to spare—baby Amelia was on her way. The responders set up for delivery right in the mother’s car, ensuring a safe and smooth birth.

At 9:18 PM, Amelia Charlotte was born, healthy and full of life.

Once both mom and baby were evaluated and stable, they were taken by ambulance to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus. They arrived without complications and were doing well at the Galloway Township hospital by 1 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22.

Seaville firefighters said it’s standard practice for volunteer fire departments to respond with paramedics to medical calls on the parkway.
